Return of a legend

Bhupen Hazarika’s fans can look forward to some vintage stuff from the legendary singer who has decided to return to stage this Rongali Bihu after a gap of nearly three years.

As expected, Bihu organisers are literally falling head over heels to book him but only a handful will ultimately get the privilege, as the music legend has not been in the best of health.

The excitement about his return can be felt in the air.

Kamal Kataki, a senior college teacher and guitarist in the singer’s troupe since 1984, said the response from the organisers has been very encouraging but it will be really difficult for the singer to accommodate everyone.

“At best there will be five shows of 45 minutes each. We will need the stage at 8pm sharp. Bhupenda will, however, interact with the fans and there will be supporting singers who will sing his compositions. These shows will be Dada’s first professional engagement after he fainted during a Bihu show three years back,” Kataki said.

If all go as planned, Bhupenda’s fans will enjoy a very enchanting Bihu.
