Sangeet Ratna to Dr Hazarika

GUWAHATI, April 3 – The Ministry of Culture, Government of India and the Sangeet Natak Akademi, the apex body of culture in India have formally announced that they would be bestowing the Sangeet Ratna, the highest honour in the field of culture, on Dr Bhupen Hazarika. In a statement, the Akademi said that Dr Hazarika would be formally honoured with the title by President Pratibha Devisingh Patil at a function to be held in the early part of June this year.
Dr Hazarika has been chosen for the honour for his creativity, music compositions, lyrics and voice rendition.
Meanwhile, Dr Hazarika has wished the people of Assam a happy and peaceful Bohag Bihu.
He will be visiting the State on April 10 and celebrate the occasion amongst his close friends, well-wishers and admirers during his stay till May.
He is said to have recovered completely from his ailments and is likely to perform in public during the Bihu.
