Bhupen Hazarika gets Lata Mangeshkar Award

INDORE: Noted lyricist and singer Bhupen Hazarika has been conferred with
the Madhya Pradesh government's prestigious 17th national Lata Mangeshkar

The award was presented to the 75-year-old Assamese singer by minister for
public relations, health and family welfare Subhash Kumar Sojatia at a
glittering function here Sunday night.

The award carries a cash prize of Rs 1 lakh and a citation.

Famous playback singer Nitin Mukesh, noted film director Kalpana Lajmi and
chairman of the award committee and the editor of the Hindi daily Nai Dunia,
Abhay Chhajlani were present on the occasion.

Accepting the award, Hazarika said, "Lata who was born three years after me
is the pride of the world and she should be honoured with an award of world
stature, highest award in the world".

Hazarika later enthralled the audience with his famous song "Dil hoom hoom
kare..." from "Rudali" and a "Bihu" song. (PTI)
