Avatara award for Hazarika

Guwahati, April 24: Five eminent personalities from Assam, including music maestro Bhupen Hazarika, have been selected for the Avatara Mahotsav Awards by Kanchi Math, a leading organisation preaching Hinduism in the country.
Eminent litterateur Arun Sarma, Sattriya exponent Jatin Goswami, Sanskrit scholar Rohini Ballav Goswami Shastry and social activist Shakuntala Choudhury have also been selected for the awards.

Sri Balaji Seva Samiti vice president Dipok Kumar Barthakur said Jayendra Saraswati Swamiwill confer the awards at a function in the city on May 1.

He said Swamiji had expressed deep concern for the development of the Northeast and was the driving force behind setting up renowned institutions like Hindu Mission Hospitals, Sankardeva Nethralaya and Balaji Mandir.

Meghalaya Governor R.S. Mooshahary and former Supreme Court judge S.N. Phukan will also be present at the function.
