APLS felicitates legendary Bhupen Hazarika

ITANAGAR, Nov 12: The Arunachal Pradesh Literary Society (APLS) felicitated the doyen of Indian Music, Daba Saheb Phalke awardee Dr Bhupen Hazarika in an emotionally surcharged atmosphere at his Nijarapara residence at Guwahati last Wednesday. Yeshe Dorjee Thongchi, Sahitya Academy Awardee and President of the APLS, who led the delegation, presented a statue of Buddha, an Adi Galuk, Khada, books written by him and publications from the State Research Department. Thongchi also read out the citation of the felicitation where the emotional bond in existence between Dr Hazarika and people of Arunachal Pradesh was elucidated in lucid Assamese. Dr Hazarika, who was eagerly waiting for the arrival of Arunachalee friends, embraced all members and soon immersed in singing with Bengia Hemanta in Assamese, Hindi and in Nyishi.

The APLS members spent more than an hour of fruitful time with the legend. They also interacted with Kalpana Lazmi, the famous Hindi film producer and director. The members, in a release today, expressed gratitude to the Asom Sahitya Sabha for their help and support in materializing the memorable moment. The APLS delegation included Batem Pertin, Deputy Director of Research (Museum & Archieves), Bengia Hemanta, a renowned radio artist and Member of Sangeet Natak Academy, Dr Pekba Ringu, writer, Taro Chatung, film producer, actor Hage Appa and his wife amongst others
