GUWAHATI: The condition of Dadasaheb Phalke awardee Bhupen Hazarika, who is admitted to a private hospital here with respiratory problems, showed signs of improvement on Friday.

A seven-member team of cardiac specialists is monitoring Hazarika and a special accommodation has been made for the treatment of the Assam Ratna.

"We have kept Hazarika at a separate care cabin. He had a heart problem earlier. However, investigations conducted on him are showing signs of improvement," said a hospital source.

According to the source, the special cabin has all the facilities that are found in an ICU.

The 85-year-old singer had undergone a coronary bypass surgery in 2009.

Hazarika was rushed to the hospital on Thursday evening after he complained of breathing problems while attending a programme at Srimanta Sankardeva Kalakshetra.
