Dr Hazarika’s birthday to be Gono Sangeetor Din

GUWAHATI, Sept 5 – Heritage Northeast will celebrate Dr Bhupen Hazarika’s 85th birthday as ‘Gono Sangeetor Din’ at the ITA auditorium at Machkhowa here from 6 pm on September 8 with songs, dances, words, cakes and fanfare, a press release said.
An 85-pound birthday cake, which is being specially prepared by the expert bakers of Repose, has been aesthetically designed by Rothin Borthakur, former Chief Architect, Government of Assam. The cake will be ceremoniously cut by Dr Lakhi Goswami of Tezpur who is a close associate of Dr Hazarika.

The musical extravaganza will be led by Khagen Mahanta, Sangeet Natak Akademi awardee and brand ambassador of Heritage Northeast. He will deliver a talk on Dr Hazarika. This will be followed by songs from Pulak Banerjee, Tarali Sarmah, Zubeen Garg, Archana Mahanta, JP Das, Zubilee, Kula Baruah, Debojani Das, Rumi, Anjana Choudhury, Bhitali Das, Farukh Hussain, Queen Das, Mira Das Saharia, Gina and others.

Ratna Ojha,Nipon Goswami, Malaya Goswami, Dinesh Das, Nishita Goswami, Dr Manju Mala Das, Dr Shrutimala Duarah, Shenehi Begum and Ajoy Dutta are among the few luminaries from the cultural, literary and journalistic fields of Assam who will join the celebrations.

Another highlight of the programme will be a creative dance, to be led by Dr Sharodee Saikia, which will be based on the unforgettable song, Sagar Songomot from the first feature film by the multi-faceted personality, which was released in 1956. Guwahati Diary will entertain the participants with sweets and snacks, BN Dey & Co of Panbazar will provide the drinking beverages, Purobi will offer sweetened curd and Blue Hill Travels will provide transportation.

The Government of Assam and Srimanta Sankaradeva Kalakshetra are being requested to tie up with Heritage North East for the programme. MNC, government and public sector undertakings are also being approached for their helping hand.

Pulak Gogoi and a few other artists will reflect their thoughts through their brushes on the occasion on the spot. Gautom Prasad Baruah, noted poet and financial expert, and George Baker, the hero of Dr Hazarika’s film Chameli Memshahab will fly down to Guwahati to attend the ceremony.

The programme will be anchored by Aboni Borah and Ilora Goswami of AIR and DDK respectively, Sameer of GupShup FM, Nasifa and others, the release added.
