Lawyer’s Book Stall completes 70 years

GUWAHATI, April 16 – Vice Chancellor of Jamia Millia University Najeeb Jung today released a new book on Dr Bhupen Hazarika entitled ‘Ancient Wing’, written by Nripen Dutta Baruah on the occasion of the completion of 70 years of the city’s landmark bookshop Lawyer’s Book Stall at Rabindra Bhawan this evening. Jung, who delivered a talk on ‘Government, Governance and Sensitivity’, on the occasion, decried the prevailing politics of caste and creed in the country even 60 years after the nation’s independence. He called for an education system in the country which laid greater stress on moulding the youth in the true spirit of human values and to be sensitive to people and problems of the society. Noted litterateur Atulananda Goswami paid glowing tributes to the founder of Lawyer’s late Bichitra Narayan Dutta Baruah and said that the bookshop over the years was patronised by leading intellectuals like Hem Barua, Birendra Kumar Bhattacharyya, among others. The function presided over by Dr Amarjyoti Choudhury, Pro-Vice Chancellor, Tezpur University was also addressed by Tez Hazarika and Nripen Dutta Baruah. Earlier, Bhaskar Dutta Baruah welcomed the gathering.
