Speech on Bhupen Hazarika to be translated into 3 foreign languages

Abdul Gani, Guwahati (Aug 27): Kangwon National University, one of the renowned educational institutes of South Korea, is planning to translate a speech on maestro Bhupen Hazarika into Korean, French and German after it was published in a volume The Multiplicity of Therapeutic Practice in Philosophy and Humanities in July this year.

The speech – Theraputic Practice and the Lyrics of Dr Hupen Hazarika — was delivered by Dr Jagadish Patgiri, associate professor of Cotton College, on the occasion of the 11th International Conference on Philosophical Practice and the 4th International Conference on Humanities Therapy at Kangwon National University (KNU) in Chuncheon, South Korea. Jahnu Barua to get maiden Bhupen Hazarika award

GUWAHATI: Acclaimed Assamese filmmaker Jahnu Barua will be conferred with the Bhupen Hazarika National Award by Pune-based social organization Sarhad. The NGO, which has for 25 years been working to connect people from border areas to the mainstream, instituted the annual award this year in the name of Dadasaheb Phalke-awardee Bhupen Hazarika, the balladeer of the Brahmaputra, who passed away last year.

The award will be given to those personalities from the northeast who have been trying to connect the region with the rest of the country in their respective fields. Sarhad founder and president Sanjay Nahar said the first Bhupen Hazarika National Award will be given to Barua in a special ceremony in Pune in October. The award constitutes Rs51,000, a trophy and a citation.
