Tez Hazarika files objection in court against Bhupen will

GUWAHATI: The tussle between the beneficiaries of the legendary artist Bhupen Hazarika's will took a serious turn on Friday, with the singer's son, Tez Hazarika, filing an objection in the probate case at the Kamrup district judge's court.

"Tez filed the written objection today (Friday)," said S Bharali, counsel of Tez.
Though Tez did not reveal the details of his objection in front of the media, close family members said the joint family holds contrasting views on the will of the balladeer.

"I don't want to say anything as the matter is undergoing the court procedure. All I can say is that the joint family wants equal rights on everything and the Bhupen Hazarika Cultural Trust has its own issues regarding this," said one of the younger brothers of the singer and a respondent of the case.

The district court has already fixed January 10 as the next date of hearing in the case and held 11 respondents in the case including Bhupen Hazarika's wife Priyamvada Hazarika.

According to family sources, filmmaker and business partner of Bhupen Hazarika, Kalpana Lajmi, has emerged as the biggest beneficiary of the legendary artiste's will, while his son was entitled only to his father's share of inherited plots in Tezpur and Nazira.
