Hazarika songs on International Digital Publishing Forum's e-book

GUWAHATI: To pay homage to cultural icon Bhupen Hazarika, a student of Tezpur University has translated 41 songs of the bard and uploaded them on EPUB (electronic publication), a free and open e-book standard by the International Digital Publishing Forum (IDPF).

"We have grown up hearing Hazarika's songs. They are not merely songs but a part of our lives. I have just tried to pay my tribute to one of the greatest souls ever born in the state," said Pronami Bhattacharyya, after formally launching her work on Saturday.

Pronami has earlier published her book, "Let My Songs Be, The Door to A New Dawn", with 21 songs of Hazarika.

This time, she added another 20 songs which have won the hearts of thousands across the country, and even abroad.

"I could feel the soul of the bard's songs. I decided to spread the message that the bard's songs are a mix of emotions, innovations and originality. It was extremely tough, but I'm grateful to the people who helped me in accomplishing my mission," Pronami added.

Artistes and scholars present on the occasion appreciated Pronami's effort to take Hazarika's songs to global readers.

"Her effort will go miles. It will be a great help for youngsters living in different parts of the globe. They can now read the lyrics of the bard. We appreciate her effort and wish her best," said Amarjyoti Choudhury, pro-VC of Tezpur University and former VC of Gauhati University.

Pronami, who is doing her PhD in African-American literature, said she would like to translate more Hazarika songs in future.
