Dr Hazarika memorial on schedule

GUWAHATI, March 26 – Cultural Affairs Minister Bismita Gogoi today told the Assembly that the Bhupen Hazarika memorial at Jalukbari (Guwahati) would be completed within the time-frame of November this year.

Replying to a question by Rafikul Islam (AIUDF), Gogoi said the process got a bit delayed as the land was handed over for the purpose only on October 8, 2014. “Now work is progressing in full swing and we hope to meet the November deadline. Once completed, it will be a major tourist attraction of the State,” she added.

Hussain also demanded a memorial research centre in the name of the great leader of the Barak Valley, Sheikh Ahmed Ali Baskandi.

Gul Akhtara Begum (AIUDF), through a supplementary question, demanded that there should be memorials after folk artistes Pratima Baruah Pandey and Rameswar Pathak.

Hazarika biopic back on track

But Prosenjit Chatterjee will be replaced by a more saleable name.
Kalpana Lajmi's biopic on her late partner, Bhupen Hazarika couldn't take off after the Bhatts' pulled out over creative differences. Now, talks are on with a top studio to come on board as a producer.

Meanwhile, Kalpana has found a director in Prem Soni, who had last directed Preity Zinta's debut production, Ishkq In Paris. Confirming this, Kalpana said, "We should go on the floors by November. I will be the creative director. My script is locked." click here to read the full story
