Dr. Bhupen Hazarika’s Bolung connection

ITANAGARA, Jan 29: In an endeavor to immortalize the birth place of legendary singer Late Dr. Bhupen Hazarika – the doyen of soulful ballads and melodies – at Bolung village in Lower Dibang Valley district, the Research Department, Arunachal Pradesh is initiating a project to erect his statue and build a memorial at a suitable site under the technical supervision of Arunachal Pradesh Literary Society (APLS).

A team comprising of APLS President Y.D Thongchi, Secretary Research department Dani Sulu, representative of Bhupen Hazarika Trust, general secretary cum Director Research Department Batem Pertin, former APLS general secretary cum Director Trade & Commerce and children of Late Gora Pertin – legislator and personal friend of the late doyen will be visiting the village on 31st January 2016 for site inspection.

The proposal to build a statue of the legendary singer within Arunachali soil – who made tremendous contributions towards the state’s art and culture, was made by the former chief minister Nabam Tuki.

12th South Asian Games Theme song launched

GUWAHATI, Jan 22: The Theme Song of the 12th South Asian Games, 2016 was released amid thunderous applause of thousands of people and volunteers during Run for North East and the Torch Relay at Sonaram field here today  The theme song is one of  legendary Dr Bhupen Hazarika’s immortal creations ‘Ei Prithibi Ek Krirangon’.

A recomposed version of the song has been prepared for the Games. It has been sung by  Mayukh Hazarika, the nephew of Dr Bhupen Hazarika, along with 8 children. All the eight languages of the participating countries of the 12th South Asian Games, 2016 have been represented in the Theme song.

Launching the song, Union Minister for Youth Affairs and Sports Sarbananda Sonowal said, “Bhupenda’s vision and universal appeal of humanity and brotherhood would keep inspiring us and the whole world.” He further added that the Theme song perfectly expresses the vision of the Games, that is, peace, progress and prosperity.


Assam Sports and Youth Welfare Minister Ajit Singh was also present during the theme song launching ceremony along with eminent sports personalities from the state and the region.
