Tez launches Bhupen plantation programme

GUWAHATI, April 27: Music maestro Bhupen Hazarika’s scion Tez Hazarika today launched the Bhupendra Briksha plantation programme at the Samadhikshetra of the balladeer at Jalukbari in Guwahati.

Launching the plantation programme there, Hazarika said: “I’m very happy that the people of Assam have named a tree species after my father. If this plant is introduced to the world as Bhupendra Briksha, along with the green environment in the world the environment of Assam will be also highlighted. On behalf of the people of Assam, some NGOs named the indigenous white sandalwood tree after Dr. Hazarika when he was alive. Dr. Hazarika himself planted a white sandalwood tree on the Srimanta Sankardeva Kalakshetra premises on January 25, 2011 on the eve of the inauguration of the Dr. Bhupen Hazarika Sangrahalaya on the premises. That was the last social programme of the maestro. Now that sapling has grown into a tree in the complex.”

Today’s programme was attended, among others, by Dipanko Hazarika, Alaka Pandey Baruah, Bokul Gogoi, Sewali Kalita, Hemen Deka and others. The programme was organized by two NGOs – Briksha and Banani.
