Dhanada Pathak gets Dr Bhupen Hazarika Xanhati award

GOLAGHAT (Dhekial), November 5: All Golaghat District Students’ Union and Bhupen Hazarika Smriti Suraksha Samiti organized Bhupen Hazarika’s fifth death anniversary with a day-long programme at the Golaghat Amateur Theatre Hall on Saturday.

The programmes included probhat pheri early in the morning, flag hoisting, smriti tarpan, naam prasanga and Bhupendra Sangeet competition among the students.

An open meeting along with felicitation programme was held where noted litterateur Dr Malini, AASU central committee assistant general secretary Monowar Hussain and organizing secretary  Raju Phukan were present. The meeting was presided over by senior journalist Dwipen Dutta and welcome speech was delivered by secretary of Bhupen Hazarika Smriti Suraksha Samiti, Rohit Gogoi. Dr. Malini delivered a brief speech on the contribution of Dr Bhupen Hazarika to society.

In the meeting prominent Lok Silpi Dhanada Pathak was awarded the Dr. Bhupen Hazarika Xanhati Bota which included felicitation letter, cheleng, japi, xarai, memento and cash amount of Rs 15,000.

Dhanada Patha hails from Rawli Xatra in Barpeta district. She is wife of famous folk musical singer Rameswar Pathak. She has sung and recorded more than 250 folk musical songs in traditional lyrics. She performed folk songs in various places of India like Delhi, Mumbai, Udaypur, Kashmir, Kalkatta, Haldia, Darjeeling and Agartala. She also performed these songs in presence of former Presidents of India Giani Jail Singh, VV Giri and R. Venkataraman, former Prime Minister PV Narasimha Rao and the King of Bhutan.

All Golaghat District Students’ Union and Bhupen Hazarika Smriti Suraksha Samiti have been giving away the Dr Bhupen Hazarika Xanhati Bota since 2013.
